A retractable cover for an exposed lift well.
Neutral Bay | Lower North Shore | Sydney
Problem
The rooftop terrace on a new penthouse apartment required a very low profile retracting cover over an exposed lift well. Due to height restrictions on the site, the cover could sit no more than 120mm above the height of the wall. The cover needed to be easily retracted and also robust enough to withstand the weather conditions for this location.
Solution
A curved batten awning with a hinged tensioning frame was proposed for this area. To retract the cover is simply a matter of releasing two pins and folding the frame back on itself. With the cover retracted the lift is unobstructed and free to rise up to the roof terrace.
Features
The hinged frame and mechanism was designed and manufactured by Outrigger Awnings. It places the required tension on the cover to ensure its stability and eliminate noise, and with minimal human effort.
Benefits
The lift and apartment below is now protected from rain and wind, and the cover complies with the height constraints of the site.
