Retracting blinds under a glass roof.
Eastern Suburbs | Sydney
Issue
The house had a large, north-facing glass roof that let in a lot of heat and glare. The glass roof had a semi-circular layout, so the blinds needed to match the trapezoidal shape of the glass panels.
Solution
When designing shade blinds for glass roofs, they can be mounted on top of the glass or below it. Blinds on top of the glass are slightly more effective at reflecting heat, but blinds below the glass still make a significant difference in reducing heat transfer. For this project, the blinds needed to be installed under the glass due to the presence of louvres and a sprinkler system that would obstruct installation on top of the glass.
Features
The shade blinds have a reflective silver coating on the top side to maximise heat reflection and a charcoal color on the underside to soften the appearance and maximise the view and transparency through the blinds.
Benefits
The shade provided by the blinds made the room more comfortable and the air conditioning more effective. It transformed the home and had a big impact on the energy bill.
