Courtyard Retractable Awning

retractable awning courtyard

A retractable awning for an awkwardly shaped courtyard.

Hurlstone Park | Canterbury-Bankstown | Sydney
Problem

An awkward shaped courtyard required a demountable or retracting cover. The courtyard had
a trapezoidal shape and a flat roof on three sides. As most of the light entering the house came
from the courtyard, it was very important for the awning not to darken the area, and for it to be
easy to remove or retract.

Solution

A roller style retracting awning was proposed for this area. The ideal solution would sit above the
roof and would be fully automated. The awning would overlap the roof on all three sides and would
need to be suitable for leaving out during heavy rain and high winds. An off white fabric was chosen
to maximise the light entering into the courtyard when the awning is extended.

Features

Outrigger’s roller style retracting awning features a unique track system with a spring tension
mechanism. The awning does not require a rain or wind sensor, and is suitable for leaving out
during heavy rain and high winds. The awning uses a smart programmable motor inside the roller
and is operated by remote control.

Benefits

The awning protects the courtyard and sliding doors from sun and rain. It makes a huge difference
to the temperature inside the home over Summer, and the owners love how they can leave their
sliding doors open and maximise cross flow ventilation, rather than close the doors and leave the
air conditioning running.
