Do I need council approval?
Outrigger, in most cases, will design the awning to be an exempt structure. An exempt structure is one which doesn’t require council approval and must comply with the following conditions;
- The awning must be less than 25 sq metres in area.
- The area to be covered must not be higher than 3m above natural ground level.
- If poles are required they must be at least 450mm from a side boundary.
- If poles are required they must be located behind the building set back line.
For most installations our awnings are classed as demountable with the poles sitting in sockets, and the entire structure suitable for dismantling and removal from site in less than one hour.
If council approval is required for your awning, Outrigger will assist with arranging for the necessary information to be prepared and lodged with your local council.
